A city for a champion: Wiener Neustadt, birthplace of Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem is perhaps the closest player to the Big Three Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The Austrian played three Slam finals: at Roland Garros 2018 and 2019, losing to Rafael Nadal, and at the Australian Open, losing to Novak Djokovic. In his career Thiem has so far won 16 titles, including Indian Wells 2019, beating Federer in the final.

At the next US Open he will be one of the favorites if he decides to play in New York. Considering the absences of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, as well as those of other champions such as Nick Kyrgios and Stan Wawrinka, Thiem could be Djokovic's real opponent (who should play in New York) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and, for the first time in his career, he could be the favorite for the final victory.

Thiem was born in Wiener Neustadt, an Austrian town south of Vienna. Wiener Neustadt is a small town but with jewels to see if you pass it for holiday reasons. Among the highlights is Wiener Neustadt Castle, an Austrian castle, located in Lower Austria, in the heart of the city of Wiener Neustadt.

It is the historic seat of the Teresian Military Academy, founded by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. Inside the castle complex there is also the Cathedral of St. George, the seat of the Military Ordinariate in Austria.

Wiener Neustadt: among history and nature

The Cathedral of Wiener Neustadt is an ancient Romanesque cathedral from 1207, characterized by two tall bell towers that make it unique in its kind, with Romanesque architecture but with evident Gothic traces.

All the natural paths that develop around the city are destinations to explore for those who love nature and the outdoors: Myra Falls is an enchanting place for a walk through nature and very interesting landscapes.

Waffen-Privat-Museum is another of the highlights of the city. Like all of Austria, Dominic Thiem's hometown is also worth a visit. A very interesting combination of nature, urban architecture, art and sport. Here you can try traditional Austrian cuisine, with German, Italian, Swiss, Hungarian and Balkan influences, immersing yourself in atmospheres of other times, characteristics, but at the same time contemporary and interesting.

From Wiener Neustadt you can easily reach Vienna and its center, and explore all its incredible history, including art, culture, history and architecture. About an hour's drive away, you can reach Slisburgo, another popular destination for travelers on holiday in Austria. In short, it can be the city from which to explore the country: off the beaten track but at the same time extremely enjoyable.
