Novak Djokovic set to play 2020 ATP Adelaide

Novak Djokovic is set to have a packed schedule in the next weeks and months. The Belgrade native will play an exhibition event at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi from 19 to 21 December facing Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev among the others, then he will head to Australia playing the inaugural ATP Cup in Brisbane for his country, Serbia, and - surprisingly - he will also compete in an official tournament just prior to a Grand Slam, the Adelaide International Tennis Tournament that will also feature Alex De Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime among the others, from 12 to 19 January. Djokovic will then head to Melbourne trying to retain the Australian Open title he conquered earlier this year beating Nadal in a championship clash.

Djokovic triumphed in Adelaide back in 2007 defeating Chris Guccione in a three-set final. The event will be back on tour in 2020 after being last played in 2008. Adelaide usually hosted an exhibition event featuring former champions and active players in the last years. The last time Djokovic played an ATP event prior to a Major was Eastbourne 2017 where he won the title, 2006 's-Hertogenbosch and 2009 Sydney. We will see how Djokovic explains the reasons behind this decision. He usually has a light schedule in order to spend time with his family.

The 32-year-old ended his season at the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid losing against Russia in the quarter-finals. After that tie, Djokovic had admitted: "I'm exhausted and just ready to have a holiday."
