Roger Federer had most emotional day of career in Mexico - Organizer
In an interview with Record, Mextenis organizer Jose Antonio Fernandez spoke about the Greatest Match in Mexico City that featured Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev. Fernandez said: "Before heading to the court and in the end, he was just thanking us for giving him such a special day. He just told me, 'This is the most emotional day I have ever had in my career.' Everything was magical, we knew the Mexican crowd was good but we now understood that this is the best. The event exceeded our expectations. The results were better than what we hoped they would, we set the highest attendance record ever. The most complicated thing was definitely the plans and Building the court. That was the biggest challenge."
The former Spanish player Nicolas Almagro spoke about the Spanish tennis: "In the past, we had Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Moyá, Alex Corretja, Albert Costa, the maiden Davis Cup title... We gave consistency to it. People not having expectations also helped because nobody was seeing us as strong opponents. It's not normal to have had three top ten guys for a long time as it happened in Spain. What Rafa, David, Tommy, Feli, Marcel, Verdasco achieved... It's very difficult to forget."
Meanwhile, Filip Krajinovic praised the success of the Serbian tennis: “It's amazing that a small country like Serbia has so many good players. I don't think there is any difference [between other countries]. We [are] just a small country, and we have a lot of very good sportsmen. And I think we do everything like other countries, I think. We [are] just strong and we work a lot. That's it."
