Simona Halep shares the key advice she got before win vs Serena Williams

In an interview Simona Halep spoke about how the Romanian investor and Madrid Open owner Ion Tiriac helped her before the eventual match win over Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final earlier this year where she conquered her second Major title. Halep said: "I am always very motivated when he comes seeing my matches. He always encouraged me to play my natural tennis, without thinking too much. Sometimes he can be tough with me but before the Wimbledon final he told me that winning or losing would have been the same. It was my most important day, he just wanted me to give myself a shot. In the end he hugged me, which doesn't usually happen."

Halep was also asked if she thought about winning Wimbledon already in the past: "I always am honest. It's true when I said before the final I thought 100% that I have a chance to win Wimbledon. Before that it was very difficult because, as I mentioned, we don't have grass courts in Romania. I never practiced as a kid on grass courts. I needed time. I needed years to get used to the surface. This year I felt great. I felt like I can touch my highest level in tennis. It happened. But that day doesn't happen very often. Yeah, I was also relaxed. I didn't have big expectations from myself winning that tournament. So everything came very relaxed. Also day by day I started to feel the game better. Helped me to stay focused. Before that tournament, no, I didn't speak with someone that I win Wimbledon. It was just day by day."
