ATP Australian Open: Roger Federer crushes Marton Fucsovics in set no. 2

Two days ago, Roger Federer delivered his 100th victory at the Australian Open after an epic battle with John Millman that went down to the distance. After more than four hours, Federer prevailed in the deciding match tie break, taking the last six points after trailing 8-4 and advancing into the last 16 at Melbourne Park for the 18th time in the 21st trip down under. Facing Marton Fucsovics at Rod Laver Arena, Roger lost the opening set following a loose service game at 3-3, bouncing back immediately to take the second 6-1 and level the overall score to find himself in a much better position ahead of set number three.

Struggling to find the first serve, Marton couldn't defend his games as he did in the opener, losing serve twice and wasting his opportunity to propel Roger towards the set, with the Swiss leveling the overall score ahead of set number three. Roger held at love in the first game with a forehand drive-volley winner and broke Marton in game two when the Hungarian sent a forehand long. A forehand winner in game three pushed Federer 3-0 up and he already looked much better on the court than in the opener. Fucsovics held at love in the fourth game with a service winner to get his name on the scoreboard, creating a break chance in the next game that Roger saved with a well-constructed attack, bringing the game home with a forehand down the line winner to increase the advantage to a 4-1.

Finding the range on the return, Federer blasted another forehand down the line winner to grab the second break and race into a 5-1 advantage, closing the set in the next game with a service winner to improve his chances of reaching the quarters after 63 minutes of play.
