The Stat Where Ash Barty Scores Over Roger Federer

It's not common for women tennis players to be compared to the male tennis players but there is at least one stat where World No.1 on the women's side Ash Barty, of Australia, scores over 20-time Grand Slam champion on the men's side Roger Federer, from Switzerland.

Speaking to World Wide of Sports, former Australian Davis Cup player Sam Groth says Barty's spin rate on her backhand slice is higher than Federer's. "Technically, she's so good. She loads up, all her weight over her right leg. She's got that racquet-head up above the ball and that is going to allow her to swing down and impart the spin and revolutions. The thing with Ash is she creates this great position, where from here she can see what her opponents are doing [before the shot]. She can change this last second. She's just an all-round athlete - has great hands. She can hit it line, she can hit across, she can hit it short on the drop shot. So what does that all mean? Well Ash Barty, if we compare her to Roger Federer....his spin rate [on a slice] is 2839RPM. Ash has actually got a higher spin rate [3138RPM]. Her backhand in comparison, with the spin she is able to generate, is world class."

Barty is through to the fourth round of the ongoing Australian Open after beating Kazakh Elena Rybakina and will play Alison Riske in the last 16. Federer is due to play his third round match on Friday evening in Melbourne.
