Boris Becker Explains Why He Does Not Want to Take on the Role of Coaching Zverev

German tennis legend Boris Becker has spoken about why he is not interested in becoming the coach of current German No. 1 men's tennis player Alexander Zverev.

According to The Bild, Becker says he has enough on his hands with his role at the German Tennis Federation and his job as a TV commentator.  "I have a lot to do as a TV expert and in the DTB (Head of Men's Tennis). I don't want to give that up because I like doing it very much. If you are a coach , it is a full-time job, then a lot is no longer possible. In general, it has nothing to do with Zverev. "

Speaking about Zverev's recent outburst at his father, who has played a pivotal role in his son's career so far, at the ATP Cup, Becker says there are always conflicts between parents and children and one should not read too much into it. "He is a human being, he has let out an emotion. In retrospect, he is sorry, I assume that he apologized to him. I also have sons who sometimes misbehave. Look at Tsitsipas with his father or McEnroe."

On Zverev's serving troubles at the ATP Cup, Becker says, "I also had a bad turn for a year, and Lendl never had a forehand for a year. It is not uncommon. Often that has nothing to do with tennis. They're not computers, they're people. They have feelings, emotions. I am his friend and I only wish him the best. I would be the happiest person if he won the Australian Open. But he also knows that I'm an honest guy and tell him more privately than publicly. The criticism did not come from anywhere, it is well meant. I know exactly how he is doing and I know the reasons. I'll only talk to him about it."

Zverev is currently through to the third round of the Australian Open in Melbourne and will play Spain's Fernando Verdasco on Saturday.
