Dominic Thiem Confirms He is No Longer Working with Thomas Muster
Austria's Dominic Thiem has confirmed that he is no longer working with former World No. 1 Thomas Muster. The former French Open champion Muster was noticeably absent in the players box during Thiem's win over Taylor Fritz on Saturday as well as during the training session whereas he was present in the Thiem box during his matches against Adrian Mannarino and Alex Bolt earlier in the week.
In his press conference after his win, Thiem confirmed that he is no longer working with Muster although the two still get along very well on the personal front. "This is just about work. We get on very well personally and said from the start that we would tell each other if something was wrong."
Muster had begun working with the Austrian only a few weeks earlier and had said the partnership was on a trial basis. He had also confirmed that Massu would be the main coach for Thiem while he would only travel for part of the year with the team if the co-operation during the trial period was successful.
Thiem said from now on he would be coached only by Chilean Nicolas Massu. Thiem beat American Taylor Fritz in four sets on Saturday while he needed five sets to defeated Alex Bolt on Thursday. The 25 year old Austrian, who has been to the final of the French Open twice in his career, is through to the fourth round in Melbourne where he will play Frenchman Gael Monfils for a place in the quarter-finals.
