Auger-Aliassime Equals Roger Federer for Finals Reached as a Teen But Behind Nadal
Canadian teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime reached his fourth ATP final two weeks ago, going down to Frenchman Gael Monfils in the finals of the Rotterdam event. Auger-Aliassime has now lost all the four finals he has reached on the ATP Tour but it remains interesting to see how the Canadian matches up against others when it comes to reaching ATP finals as a teenager.
According to a stat from MisterOnly.Tennis (@OnlyRogerCanFly), Auger-Aliassime matches Monfils, Swiss legend Roger Federer, Argentine Juan Martin del Potro, and German Alexander Zverev who all reached four finals as a teenager on the ATP Tour.
Britain's Andy Murray's count on the same stat was 5, while current World No. 1 Novak Djokovic reached 7 finals as a teenager.
The undisputed leader in this count is Spain's Rafael Nadal, who reached a staggering 18 finals on the ATP Tour as a teenager.
The Canadian turns 20 in early August, so he could very well catch up with Murray and perhaps even Djokovic and it will remain to be seen just how good a career he ends up having eventually but he has surely got off to a promising start.
