Bookies Provide Odds: Now for Maria Sharapova Appearing on Dance Reality Program
There were days when odds on Maria Sharapova winning a Grand Slam were commonplace. But now, one day after the announcement of the former World No. 1's retirement, bookies have updated odds on her appearing on reality television.
Ladbrokes have provided odds of her participation in the upcoming series of the hit dancing show 'Strictly Come Dancing' at 2/1, with the odds provided by Coral for the same being at 3/1. The latter is also providing odds of 2/1 for the Russian to appear in the US version of the show 'Dancing with the Stars' and 5/1 for her coming on 'I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here'
According to Metro, Alex Apati of Ladbrokes commented, "Strictly chiefs could serve up the best line-up ever this year with Sharapova potentially taking part in the show if the latest odds are anything to go by.’
Coral’s John Hill commented, "Maria Sharapova has had a fantastic tennis career and now she has put her racket away, punters are backing her to showcase her skills on the dance floor on Strictly later this year. The former Australian Open winner may also fancy a trip Down Under to the I’m A Celeb jungle where she would be a big signing for the show.’
Sharapova is already set to appear on the American network show "Shark Tank" this Friday where she will sit in as a guest shark and try to negotiate deals with entrepreneurs for her business empire.
While it seems unlikely that she would may to appear on the 'I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here' show given her expanding business interests, appearing on a dance show a little more likely. Several tennis personalities in the past have done so including Daniela Hantuchova, Judy Murray, Agnieszka Radwanska, Martina Navratilova and Monica Seles on different versions of the show format.
When asked about the same way back in 2012, the Russian had said, "“Even though I like to dance and all, there’s something about dancing in prom costumes in front of national television that is just not very appealing to me."
However, in her column where she announced her retirement, the Russian did mention that she was looking forward to taking dance classes in her free time now that her career was over. "In the meantime, there are a few simple things I’m really looking forward to: A sense of stillness with my family. Lingering over a morning cup of coffee. Unexpected weekend getaways. Workouts of my choice (hello, dance class!)."
