Gael Monfils: I am more than happy to win again in Montpellier
French tennis star Gael Monfils, 33, has underlined that winning it all in front of his home fans in Montpellier meant a lot to him.
The top-seeded Frenchman put up a great campaign in Montpellier as he saw off rising Canadian Vasek Pospisil in the final 7-5 6-3 to lift his first title of the season.
The 33-year-old has had lots of success in Montpellier throughout his career as he now has won three titles at the tournament.
"I am more than happy to win again in France,” Monfils said after the final, per the ATP Tour. “This is the third time [in Montpellier] and hopefully I can have some more [success]."
Monfils fired a monstrous winner on his second set point on Pospisil's serve in the 12th game to claim a tight opener.
"It has been a great week. I am very pleased about my performance today,” Monfils added. “I think I played very solid again and I was very happy with the way I handled the key moments."
