Gael Monfils reveals main reason behind his 10-match winning streak

In-form Frenchman Gael Monfils says fighting hard in each match has been one of the biggest reasons behind his 10-match winning streak.

Monfils, seeded at No. 3, made a positive start to his campaign at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Monday as he beat Hungarian Marton Fucsovics 6-4 7-5.

This month, the 33-year-old Frenchman claimed back-to-back titles for the first time in his career after winning it all in Marseille and Rotterdam.

World No. 9 Monfils struggled a bit in his Dubai first round clash as he lost his serve twice in the first set against Fucsovics but claimed three breaks to win the opener.

The Frenchman then earned the lone break of the second set in the 12th game to seal a straight-set win.

"I think [the reason for my winning streak is] fighting. I fought hard,” Monfils said, per the ATP. “I still believed, even though I played very bad.”

Monfils, who made the semifinal in Dubai last year, plays next against the winner of the match between Yen-hsun Lu and Yasutaka Uchiyama.

"Last year, I had a great run,” Monfils added. “I had fantastic matches here. Hopefully, for my next match, I will show you much better.”
