How Simona Halep blends tennis and hard work: “It’s not pleasure anymore, it’s a job”

Simona Halep shared her opinion on the importance of hard work and explained how putting all your focus on your dreams is a crucial thing to do, if you want to be the best in your niche.

“Since I’ve started playing tennis, things didn’t come easy for me. I suffered before I could be happy. Now I see it as an advantage for my personality. It kept me with both feet on the ground. It’s a fact. The fact that I won Grand Slams, the fact that I won important matches, that I defeated great players. It wasn’t by chance.” Simona said in a feature video made by Banca Transilvania.

“When I’m preparing for tournaments or when I’m going to the gym, I’m 100% in and that’s how I’ve been all my life. If you want to be really good, you have to be all in. Tennis is my life, because all I’ve been doing until now was for it. I don’t go to sleep late, because the next day I have to practice. I don’t go out because I get tired and the next day I won’t perform as good as expected. Everything revolving around me is for and related to tennis.” Simona emphasized.

However, hard work is useless if you don’t like what you do in the two times Grand Slam winner’s opinion. “My father says “If you don’t enjoy being on the court, then you can’t do anything.” And I do enjoy being there, but on the other hand you’re there every day, have a game point… you miss it; you have a set point… you miss it; you have a match point… you lose the match. It’s not pleasure anymore, it’s a job. I assumed it and I treat it like it is.” said Halep.

To wrap it all up, Simona Halep offered precious advice for each one of us, no matter what’s our calling. “You should never trick tennis, or anything you do, in the field in which you’re performing. There’s nothing magical in sport. You have to work and that’s it.” Simona concluded.
