Kyle Edmund: There's lot of ups and downs you don't see behind scenes
Great Britain's Kyle Edmund, 25, didn't hide his happiness after winning the New York Open title as he admitted that making it all the way this past week meant a lot to him.
Edmund, seeded at No. 8, saw off three-time ATP champion Andreas Seppi 7-5 6-1 in the New York final to claim his second ATP title.
The Briton made two finals in 2018 as he ended runner-up in Marrakech that season, before he won his maiden ATP title a couple of months later in Antwerp.
"There’s a lot hard work throughout the year, a lot of ups and downs that you don’t see behind the scenes. To win this title means a lot to me," Edmund said, per the ATP Tour.
The two players were all tied at five games apiece after the opening 10 games of the match before Edmund claimed back-to-back breaks to open a 7-5 3-0 lead.
Seppi, 35, never recovered from losing five games in a row as the Briton earned one more break en route to securing a straight-set win in the final.
"He played a good match today and he deserved to win,” Seppi said. “I enjoyed my time on this court and played some good matches this week. I’ll take the positives from here and move forward."
