Medvedev on Roger Federer:Sure he's going to come back well at the grass court season
Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev said he was shocked to hear the news of Roger Federer's knee surgery, according to Express UK.
The 20 time Grand Slam champion Federer announced on Thursday that he had surgery on his right knee after it had been ‘bothering’ him and that he would be out of action for four months and only return in time for the grass court season. This means that Federer will miss the hard court events in Dubai and the United States and also the entire clay court season, including the French Open, which he has won only once in his career.
Speaking in Marseille, Federer commented, "The news shocked me. I didn't know he was going to have an operation. It's a little sad for him in the sense that he misses tournaments when he is still playing well. I’m sure he's going to come back well at the grass court season.”
Medvedev was speaking in Marseille where he is the top seed at the tournament and was beaten in the quarter-finals on Friday by Gilles Simon.
The 24 year old Medvedev will also likely benefit from Federer's absence in the next few months as he is likely to overtake the Swiss legend in the rankings with Federer being out of action for the next few months. Medvedev is currently ranked No. 5 in the world, behind Dominic Thiem at No. 4 and Federer at No. 3 Federer's last tournament was the Australian Open, where he lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
