Roger Federer: "I looked puny"

More than 52,000 spectators, the largest crowd ever recorded for a tennis match, attended the charity exhibition called "Match for Africa" in Cape Town between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The event first involved a double, Federer with Bill Gates and Nadal with Trevor Noah, then the "Fedal", anticipated by the entry into the court of the captain of the South African rugby national team Siya Kolisi who gave the Swiss champion a jersey, obviously with the number 8. Federer won 6-4 3-6 6-3 despite having scored five points less.

Speaking to L’illustré, the 20-time Grand Slam champion revealed what people should know about South Africa in terms of sports: “Rugby, of course! Cricket too, frankly, but rugby inspires me more. I was very pleased, during this event, to meet Siya Kolisi, the captain of the Springboks (national rugby team) national team.

I also know, through the World Sports Awards, some members of the world champion team in 2007: Bryan Habana and Percy Montgomery. As well as the Randt bone rugby legend. I am very impressed with their physical condition. During the Match in Africa, we took a selfie, Rafa Nadal, Siya Kolisi and me. In comparison, I looked puny.”

Due to the knee surgery Federer will lose 3180 points out of the 7130 he has at the moment, will return with 3950 points and should be between 7th and 9th place in the ATP ranking. In 2019 in Halle was the tenth triumph and in the Championships the title number 9 dematerialized on the two unexploited match-points against Djokovic, after a huge path culminated with success on Rafa Nadal in the semifinal.
