Roger Federer: "Novak Djokovic deserved to win the Australian Open"
The absence of Roger Federer in the next tournaments of the ATP Tour calendar after surgery will also have repercussions for the Swiss in the ATP ranking. Unable to compete in the Dubai tournament, the Masters 1000 of Indian Wells and Miami and Roland Garros, the competitions he had planned in his calendar for this 2020, Federer will see how he falls positions.
In the period of time that will be lost by the injury (he will not return until June in Halle or Wimbledon) Federer had to defend a total of 3,180 points of the 7,130 he currently has in the classification. During the time that Federer is off the court, the Swiss could see Rafa Nadal matches his record of 20 Grand Slam titles in Roland Garros as long as the Spanish gets his thirteenth title on the clay of Paris.
Speaking to Simon Parker in an exclusive interview, the 20-time Grand Slam champion talked about Novak Djokovic's victory at the Australian Open: “After Australian, it was a good start of the season after all, with no preparation tournament. But it was unfortunate with the groin. Novak played an amazing level again, and he deserved to win the Australian Open in a wonderful final against Dominic Thiem. I got lucky to make it to the semis. I could have lost twice, but it was nice to show my fighting spirits."
Federer will return in the grass season and must do well in Halle or Wimbledon to score points and get one of eight places for the Nitto ATP Finals in London. He will be defending his 1700 ATP points on the green turf.
