ATP release statement on Indian Wells cancellation
The ATP have released a statement following the cancellation of Indian Wells Masters as they "regret" that the event got called off but also underlined the health and safety of players remains their "top priority."
On Sunday, the Indian Wells Masters became the first major United States sporting event to get cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak -- a news that came as a shock to both the players and fans.
The Miami Masters organizers have already released a statement -- confirming that they plan to proceed with the event as scheduled from March 23 - April 05 -- but underlined that they are closely monitoring the coronavirus situation.
"While we regret that the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells will not take place, the ATP Tour calendar beyond Indian Wells remains as status quo. We continue to monitor the situation daily, working closely with our player and tournament members with the understanding that direction must be taken from local public health authorities," ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said in a statement released on the ATP website.
"We are committed to exploring all options for the operation of upcoming tournaments as the health and safety of our players and all other stakeholders remain our top priority. Any further updates will be communicated on ATP platforms."
