Coric: "Djokovic is tougher than Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal"
There is no doubt that there are some similarities between Borna Coric and Novak Djokovic. Both come from nations of old Yugoslavia (Croatia and Serbia) and share a fairly similar type of game (in addition to having their best shot in the backhand). The young Croatian has already beaten both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, but never managed to defeat Djokovic.
The Croatian tennis player surprised the 20-time Slam champion in the Halle 2018 final, then repeating the feat also in Shanghai a few months later. A month after beating the former No. 1 in the world, the Zagreb player helped his national team beat France to win the latest Davis Cup (traditional version).
In his career he has won two ATP tournaments, while he has won seven minor titles out of eight finals reached. He reached two round of 16 Slam finals, precisely at the US Open 2018 and the Australian Open 2019. He also reached the twelfth position of the ranking in November 2018.
During a recent interview, he also talked about the Big Three and his record against them. He has already beaten Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, twice in his career. However, he has never beaten Novak Djokovic. “All four are incredible players and have done so much for tennis. Novak and I have a similar style of play and he does everything a little better. Maybe that’s why I haven’t been able to defeat him yet" - Coric admitted.
On the Next Gen, he added: "It's hard for me to judge whether the other players are doing everything right. I am not their trainer. I only know that my attitude is extremely good and that I work very professionally. Unfortunately, my tennis is not yet good enough to be a top 5 player. But I will do everything I can to get there."
