Frances Tiafoe Hires Former Top 10 Player As Coach

Young American tennis player Frances Tiafoe has hired former Top 10 player Wayne Ferreria, of South Africa, as his new coach. The American posted an update on his Twitter account saying, "Great news! Happy to announce that I am adding a new member to my team - former ATP Top 10 player, Wayne Ferreira #atptour #bigfoeonthecomeup #BigTruss"

The 22 year old Tiafoe is down to No. 89 in the ATP rankings, having been as high as No. 29 in February last year. He is currently working with 27-year-old Zack Evenden who has been travelling with Tiafoe for the past two seasons. Tiafoe is now adding the expertise of Ferreira to the team, hoping it would help take him to the next level.

The 48-year-old Ferreira has worked with Croatian Marin Cilic last year for a brief period and has also worked with the South African Davis Cup team.

Ferreira won 15 titles in his career and reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 1992 and 2003. He was also part of the South African team that won the Hopman Cup in 2000 and peaked at No. 6 in the world rankings in singles and No. 9 in the world rankings in doubles.

Tiafoe has a 5-7 record on the tour this season. In his most recent tournament, he lost to Swiss Stan Wawrinka in the first round of the ATP Mexican Open.
