Judy Murray: I Don't Know When Andy Murray Will Be Back

Judy Murray, the mother of former World No. 1 Andy Murray, who recently announced that he might have to undergo a third surgery on his hip, says she does not know when her son will return to the court.

According to The Daily Record, Judy says, "Andy’s got so many fans out there and everybody wants to know when you’re going to see him again. Often the answer to that is ‘I don’t know’. Because you don’t know. You don’t know how long an injury is going to take to rehab or repair itself or what more you might have to go through. You do your rehab, you go back into training. You start gently, you build it up. You test it out, you go into competition. You test it out there. Then you see where you’re at and you have to adjust your schedule of training and competition to create a balance. You can’t just go from doing nothing for a long time to doing five sets at the Australian Open, for example. He’s not going to rush anything, he’s going to take time and make sure his body is absolutely ready before he puts it back in again. But it’s an incredible physical and emotional challenge for him. When things are tough, when there’s failure, or defeat, or disappointment or a setback, this is where the emotional support around you really kicks in. “

Murray has already undergone two hip surgeries and has not played since winning the ATP Cup in Antwerp in October.

The Scot will turn 33 years old in May. He won the 2012 US Open final, becoming the first British player since 1977, and the first British man since 1936, to win a Grand Slam singles tournament and is also the first British man to win multiple Wimbledon singles titles since Fred Perry in 1936, winning the tournament in 2013 and 2016.

The Scot is the men's singles 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medallist, making him the only tennis player, male or female, to have won two Olympic singles titles and also featured in Great Britain's Davis Cup winning team in 2015, as the Brits won their first Davis Cup title since 1936.
