Shamil Tarpishchev: The Situation is Very Difficult

Shamil Tarpishchev, the President of the Russian Tennis Federation, has spoken about how the current COVID-19 pandemic has affected the tennis players around the world.

According to the GoTennis.ru website, Tarpishchev says, "Now no one has an understanding of how the situation in the world will develop, it remains only to monitor how events unfold . There are already a lot of problems, but the tournaments have been postponed, they want to play them out. But it’s not clear when the calendar year cannot be extended. Plus for the closure of sports facilities, many tennis players already have problems with the training process. The situation is very difficult."

As of now, the tennis tours have been suspended till June 7th with many expecting that the tournaments in the United Kingdom will also be canceled or postponed as the situation in the United Kingdom does not look very promising as well.

Tarpishchev is a former tennis player. From 1974 to 1991 he was been the head coach of the USSR, CIS (1992) and Russian (since 1997) female and male tennis teams. In the Soviet times, Tarpishchev helped the country win the Davis Cup team in 1974, 1976, and the Fed Cup team reach the semi-finals in 1978 and 1979 . He has also been a Member of the Executive Committee of the Russian Olympic Committee and the International Olympic Committee. After Russia's victory over Sweden, Shamil made a record of 55 wins as team captain of the Russian Davis Cup team, beating the former record holder - Australian Neil Fraser.
