USTA To Provide Donation To Grow The Game Of Tennis In Hawaii

The USTA has announced that it will donate $15,000 to the USTA Hawaii Pacific section and the Parks and Recreation Department of the City and County of Honolulu to help grow the game of tennis in the region, according to a press release from the USTA.

The donation is part of the USTA’s Davis Cup Legacy Program, which is designed to leave a lasting mark in the communities that host Davis Cup ties in the United States. This year's Davis Cup World Group Qualifiers tie is being held in Honolulu, Hawaii where the United States is playing Uzbekistan.

The USTA Hawaii Pacific Section and Honolulu Parks and Recreation Department will use the Legacy gift for court improvements at The Donald A. Andrews Diamond Head Tennis Center (DHTC). The DHTC offers programming to tennis players of all ages, including Net Generation programming for youth, and hosts a variety of events and tournaments throughout the year.

USTA Chairman of the Board and President Patrick Galbraith commented, "One of our top priorities with Davis Cup in the United States is to give back to the communities that give us so much while hosting these events. Being able to help with improvements to the Diamond Head Tennis Center is both gratifying and important, as we hope to make a positive impact for local tennis players, old and new.”

Ron Romano, Executive Director, USTA Hawaii Pacific, commented, "We are delighted to be able to present a Davis Cup Legacy grant for the Donald A. Andrews Diamond Head Tennis Center. The City and County of Honolulu have been great partners in promoting tennis as a lifelong sport at over 200 City public tennis courts.”
