Andy Murray and Jamie Murray Set to Appear in British Event in July
Tennis fans could see Andy Murray and brother Jamie Murray take part in a London-based event involving British tennis players, which is being organized with the help of Jamie Murray's contacts and expertise.
According to The Telegraph, Jamie Murray had planned a week-long series of doubles events in mid-July around tennis clubs in Surrey and London even before the pandemic had led to the cancellation of tournaments on the men's and women's tours.
The report says that now the plan is being extended to include a singles round-robin as well. The format could see no spectators and officials being involved. The players are likely to take the role of the umpires and call whether their own shots are in or out.
It is likely that the top eight British players would be put into two groups of four players each with the final being contested by the winners of the group stages.
As of now, all tennis tournaments till July 13th have been suspended.
Wimbledon has been cancelled for this year - the first time that the tournament is not being held since World War II. All the grass court events in Great Britain prior to the Wimbledon Championships have also been cancelled.
This is the second proposed tennis event being planned in July in Great Britain.
It has also been reported that BBC is hoping to conduct a daily show during the Wimbledon fortnight which would feature top players and a look back at some of the classic matches from the past.
The former British tennis player Sue Barker says she hopes to conduct the show live from the All England Club with guests if it would be safe to do the same during the Wimbledon Championships.
