Boris Becker's Early Life to be Made into a Movie

A movie on the early life of three time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker is in the works, according to The Bild.

A spokesperson for the broadcaster RTL has confirmed to BILD that a movie on the life of Becker is underway.

The movie is likely to focus on the early part of his life, and not his later life and it is not certain as to who would play the tennis hero in the film.

The film is being produced by Michael Souvignier, "The castings for the main role were postponed, the planning was interrupted. We originally wanted to decide who played Boris Becker in May. But that will still take a while. We all hope that the situation will change soon."

Souvignier is a producer and production manager, known for Mack the Knife - Brecht's Threepenny Film (2018).

It is not certain when the filming will start or be released given the current shutdown.

Becker is a former world No. 1 and won Wimbledon at the age of 17 - making him an icon in Germany and a sporting hero across the world. He won six major titles in his career - including three Wimbledons, two Australian Opens and one US Open. He also won five year-end championships, 13 Masters Series titles and an Olympic gold medal in doubles. In 1989, he was voted the Player of the Year by both the ATP and the ITF.

Becker struggled with his early success and fame, and has had a turbulent personal life. In recent times, he has been a commentator for tennis on several networks and also coached World No. 1 Novak Djokovic for a period of three years.
