Daria Kasatkina: Players Would Be Very Grateful for any WTA Compensation

Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina says that while she understands that the WTA is in a very difficult position when it comes to compensating players during the current shutdown, she hopes that some compensation package works out and would be very grateful.

Speaking to Match TV in Russia, the 22 year old Russian says, “Points and rating, of course, need to be frozen. I think this is not so difficult. But money is another question. All players would like to receive some compensation, help, because now everyone is sitting and not getting anything. At the same time I understand how difficult it is for WTA, because sponsors also lose money. In such a force majeure situation it’s difficult to demand something, but if it works out, it will be fine and we will be very grateful."

The World No. 66 says she is trying to remain active and fit during the tour suspension. "Quarantine is not so bad, but sitting at home is boring. I mix leisure time with workouts in the parking lot, fitness, series, everything that everyone else does. How did you get the idea for training in the parking lot? From hopelessness. When strict quarantine began, I was no longer able to go to the club and train. Then I went to the parking lot and started training there. The wall is a great rival. I continue to pay the salary to my coach, all agreements are valid. Moreover, we continue to work, he sends me training plans."

Kasatkina has won two WTA titles in singles - the WTA Charleston Open in 2017 and the Kremlin Cup at home in Russia in 2018. She is also a former French Open junior girls singles winner.

The former Top 10 player also recently posted her own video of attempting a trick shot challenge like Roger Federer from her parking lot.
