David Ferrer praises Novak Djokovic's initiative to help lower-ranked players

Former world No. 3 David Ferrer has praised Novak Djokovic for stepping out and proposing a plan to help lower-ranked professionals during the Tour suspension.

Djokovic, ranked at No. 1, reportedly proposed that top-100 players each donate from 5000 to 30,000 to player relief fund -- the money would be distributed to those most affected by the Tour suspension.

After the Tour was suspended, several high-ranked players publicly stayed they would be fine but expressed their fear that lower-ranked professionals could face major financial struggles.

"This is good news because tennis is not made up only of professionals. It is interesting to help everyone so that our sport continues to function normally. It's a chain," Ferrer told Marca, as revealed on We Love Tennis France. "That people like Djokovic and Nadal -- who do so much for society -- take these kinds of initiatives -- says a lot about who they are as a person."
