Kirsten Flipkens Stopped e Fined by Police During Bicycle Ride
Belgian tennis player Kirsten Flipkens posted a frustrated message on her social media account after she was stopped and fined by the police after a long bicycle ride during the current lockdown period.
Flipkens mapped out a trip of 130 kms and drove across the border into the Netherlands without realizing it. When she cycled back into Belgium, she was stopped by the police.
According to Het Laatste Nieuws, it earned her a fine of 250 euros.
Flipkens commented, "I had entered a route of 130km in the GPS (which the GPS chooses itself) and from the moment I saw that I was in the Netherlands (in Komoot), I entered the shortest route back to Belgium. You can see them (the cops) from a distance of 1km. And then immediately I was put aside like a criminal with sirens on the side. Really bad."
What frustrated Flipkens more is that another cyclist passed by who recognized her shortly and said he had received only a warning at the same crossing.
Flipkens is currently ranked No. 77 in the WTA world rankings.
