Novak Djokovic: ‘Meditation is not a religious subject as many people think’
Novak Djokovic and Fabio Fognini recently had an interesting Instagram live, in which, among many other things, they discussed about meditation.
The actual World No. 1 said: “It is not a religious subject as many people think, it is a subject of health, of serenity. It really helps you to stay calm. Today, in this modern world, that is obviously very fast. We are always playing, always out, we have thousands informations coming from phones, from computers, televisions. We are surrounded by a lot of noise, and meditation is really important in my opinion as it helps to meet, to be present, to have a reset, as a person, as a tennis player, as an athlete. We alway alone on the court , so I think it is a fundamental thing to do. I have been doing it for ten years now, and it has obviously helped me a lot on the court but also outside of it, for normal life.”
Djokovic also shared his opinion on the importance of specific breathing exercises and recommended everyone to give it a try: "There are some techniques of breathing that can really affect positively your mental, emotional, and physical health," he said.
Fognini revealed he also makes meditations before going to sleep as well as breathing exercises, and that it really helps him to feel better, especially off the court. The Italian said the reason he started doing it was because he was “not feeling very good” and had panic and anxiety attacks in the past.
