Zverev: "Roger Federer, Nadal and Djokovic will be fresher after the break"

The forced break in the tennis world due to the coronavirus emergency will give advantages in the short term especially to the 'old guard' represented by the great champions Novak Djokovic (32 years old), Roger Federer (38) and Rafael Nadal (33).

The German player is the only active player outside of the Big Four with three ATP Masters 1000 titles. Zverev has been praised by members of the Big Four as one of their potential successors. Rafael Nadal has called him a "clear possible future No. 1," while Novak Djokovic has said, "Hopefully, he can surpass me".

Alexander feels the extended break from tennis will only serve the legends well because they are used to skipping events. "We boys have to get going first. So the break is more of an advantage for the older ones," Zverev told Sport Bild. "They have more experience and know exactly what they have to do. They will also be fresher after the break. Therefore, standing is more of an advantage for older players."

Sascha has been practicing every day since the lockdown begun. “My employees are working more than usual," Zverev added. "So short-time work is not an issue. Now is the time that matters. When it starts again, you will see exactly who has worked hard and who has not.

I enjoy such times. Right now is the moment when I can improve. You cannot improve during the season. You travel from city to city, playing one match after the other. Now you can work on certain things. I have three months to completely take my game apart. I can see exactly what I need."
