Boris Becker backs Roger Federer and reveals crucial tournaments for..

Like many other former players and coaches, the six-time Major champion Boris Becker has backed Roger Federer's idea of merging the ATP and WTA into one organization and making things better for all the players out there. The German would love to see bigger ten-day events with both the men's and women's fields, not being fan of the smaller tournaments that go week after week and can't compete with Majors and Masters events. Becker has urged the leading governing bodies to sit together and find the best possible solution in those troubled times affected badly by the coronavirus ever since March. Also, he believes the US Open and Roland Garros are the crucial tournaments for the rest of the season, hoping to see the action at both Majors in September and more tennis until the end of the year.

"In my perfect world, I would like to see much more combined events," Becker said. "Men and women events over ten days would be the ideal scenario moving forward. In my take, we have too many tennis tournaments week in week out. Sometimes we have two or three in the same week in different countries which I don't think is right. And obviously, the smaller tournaments will have a hard time to survive in the current crisis. And who knows where they are going to be put back next year. I would hope the governing bodies and big tournaments, the Masters Series on both sides, that they come together and find a formula which is good for the game. I think a lot depends on the decision regarding the US Open and the French Open. I think if that's positive, then we will have a tournament or two before the US Open in America. I think it was good of the US Open to say 'listen, let's wait and see and not make a rushed decision.' If everything goes right, then I think we will have tennis for the rest of the year. If we don't have the US Open or the French Open, I don't think we will have tennis for the rest of the year."
