Dan Evans: My Mother Had a Mild Case of the Virus

Britain's top ranked player Dan Evans has said that his mother was infected with a mild case of the COVID-19 virus.

Evans, who is 29 years old, spoke to Gloucestershire Live and commented, “Everything's good. Mum had the virus but not in a bad way. She was fine, she was in bed for a few days.”

The World No. 28, who lives in Cheltenham, says he hopes that his family and friends will remain healthy in the coming weeks.

Evans is with his girlfriend Aleah during the lockdown and is not able to visit his family and friends in Birmingham, where he is originally from though he is spending time trying to remain active and fit.

Spanish tennis player Feliciano Lopez had also revealed that his mother had been infected with the virus but is doing fine now.

Former French Open doubles champ Patrick McEnroe, tennis administrator Katrina Adams and young Brazilian player Thiago Seyboth Wild had also tested positive for the virus in March.

Evans reached the fourth round of the 2017 Australian Open. He has reached 2 ATP finals in his career - the 2017 Apia International Sydney and the Delray Beach Open.

He played a critical role for Great Britain in the Davis Cup in recent years - winning deciding fifth rubbers in matches from 2012 and 2013, against Slovakia and Russia respectively, helping Great Britain progress to the Davis Cup World Group.

He was part of the Great Britain team that won the Davis Cup in 2015 and were named the BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year.
