Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli announces she is expecting first child

Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli has announced that she is pregnant with her first child. Bartoli took to Instagram to announce that she and her husband, the Belgian football player Yahya Boumedine, become parents for the first time.

The Frenchwoman made the announcement on her social media account, saying, “It is with immense joy and a lot of emotion that we announce the upcoming arrival of our baby. We are eager to be parents and to be 3 in the Bartoli - Boumediene family. Bartoli also shared a picture of her ultrasound on her Insta story. She did not also mention the gender of their unborn baby.

The 35 year old Bartoli married Boumedine last year. The couple are now settled in Dubai.

Marion Bartoli won the 2013 Wimbledon Championships singles title after previously being runner-up in 2007, and was a semifinalist at the 2011 French Open. She also won eight WTA singles & three WTA doubles titles in her career. She announced her immediate retirement from professional tennis in August 2013, just over a month after winning Wimbledon. She peaked at No. 7 in the world rankings and was known for her unique style of play - using two hands on both her forehand and backhand. After her retirement, Marion Bartoli also coached former French Open champion Jeļena Ostapenko. She has also been involved in commentating on the sport in recent times.
