Garbine Muguruza shares about her life during quarantine for Vogue Spain

Former World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza has written about her experience during the current tennis shutdown for the latest issue of the Spanish edition of Vogue magazine.

Garbine Muguruza talks about missing tennis and how she has been keeping busy without the sport

In the article, Muguruza says, "I thought that it would be impossible to cancel a competition of such magnitude, but in the end we received the news that we did not want to hear. We had snapped out of our pro tennis circuit bubble. What was coming upon us was much bigger and more serious."

"I was not prepared, especially for the great emptiness that I felt when I could not do what I know best: play tennis.

The Spaniard has been spending her time at her house on the banks of Lake Geneva, next door to a farm with sheep and cows.

“Since I was three years old, I’ve lived with a racquet in my hand and for one objective. When all of that is suddenly gone due to a greater force, it’s life elbowing you and saying, ‘Hey, there is more to life than tennis, maybe this is a good moment to get ready for when that day comes. When you have to hang up the racquet. From every bad situation you can always find a message, and today, mine is to lift my gaze up and look beyond what I know and explore the things that are inside of me.”

The Spaniard says she has been taking a psychology course from Johns Hopkins University, two courses on nutrition and health from Stanford University, and an exercise science course from the University of Colorado.

26 year old Garbine Muguruza has won seven singles titles, including the 2016 French Open and the 2017 Wimbledon Championships. Muguruza has been successful in doubles as well, winning five titles, finishing runner-up at the 2015 WTA Finals and reaching the 2014 French Open semifinals with compatriot Carla Suárez Navarro. She also reached the final of the Australian Open in 2020 prior to the tennis shutdown in March.
