Karolina Pliskova: I am happy to resume training with coach Vallverdu

World No. 3 Karolina Plsikova is back to training with her coach Daniel Vallverdu, whom she met after more than two months. The Czech woman had a back injury which forced her to miss the current CTS President's Cup tournament in the Czech Republic.

Karolina Pliskova says she is happy to start training again with her coach

In a note that she shared on social media, Pliskova says, "It's been exactly 74 days since Dan and I last saw each other. So if I count correctly. After preparing for Indian Wells, which didn't even start in the end, we said goodbye and flew home. Since then, I have trained either alone, in the gym or with a sparring partner."

"I'm not used to such a long break without a coach even after the end of the season, so I think we were both happy that we can start preparing together again. Unfortunately, due to the situation, it could not be arranged sooner and there was a lot of paperwork around that, which I am glad that I did not had to solve but my team did. Of course, Dani also underwent a test for Covid, which must be negative and at the same time must not be older than 4 days."

"The plan is such that in the next 2 months we will prepare alternately in the Czech Republic and Monaco in different interval blocks, so that the body gets used to the greater physical and fitness load that I lack after a back injury. For that reason, unfortunately, I will not participate in the CTS President's Cup tournament in the end. I'm sorry, but I don't feel healthy enough to handle it. But I definitely want to get in order as soon as possible to be ready for the next tournaments that are coming up with us. I am glad that tournaments of this format are being created in the Czech Republic as well, and I believe that fans will be able to come to at least some of them."

Karolína Pliskova is a former world No. 1 and has won 16 singles and five doubles titles on the WTA tour. She reached her first and so far only Grand Slam final at the 2016 US Open, where she was runner-up to Angelique Kerber in three sets.
