Mikhail Youzhny on GOAT debate, all-time Grand Slam record battle

Former Russian tennis player Mikhail Youzhny insists people should appreciate the greatness of the Big Three as it's difficult to pick one member from the group and call him the greatest off time.

The Russian thinks Roger Federer is the most versatile player from the group but Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are more consistent and even more psychologically stable.

"I think Roger Federer is by far the most versatile of the three, he can do everything. After I would say that (Rafael) Nadal and (Novak) Djokovic are more consistent and even more stable psychologically. That being said, it is very difficult to decide between them," Youzhny told Sport/Express Russia, as revealed on Benin 24 TV.

Youzhny, a former world No. 8, thinks world No. 1 Djokovic is in the most difficult position of the three in the battle for the Grand Slam title record.

Federer, 38, holds the record for the most Grand Slam titles captured with 20, while 33-year-old Nadal sits at the second place with 19 Majors won.

Djokovic, 32, sits at the third place on the all-time Grand Slam list with 17 Majors captured as the Serb earlier this year claimed a record eighth Australian Open title.

"I know the big question is trying to figure out who will win the most Grand Slam tournaments. If you want to be very pragmatic, I would say that Novak Djokovic is the least well placed because he is late, even if he is younger. And you have to take into account the young generation who is coming and who is progressing and I know what I am talking about since I am coaching Denis Shapovalov," Youzhny said.
