Noah Rubin gives shout-out to Juan Martin del Potro

American tennis player Noah Rubin has suggested that Juan Martin del Potro hasn't received as much as credited as he should have for winning a US Open title at only 20 years old.

Del Potro, a former world No. 3, put up a magnificent run at Flushing Meadows in 2009 as he edged out record 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer in the final to claim his maiden Grand Slam title.

Del Potro, who was at the time considered one of the most talented and promising players on the Tour, was playing outstanding tennis over those two weeks at Flushing Meadows as his run to the title was all but easy.

Before beating former world No. 1 Federer in a tight US Open final, the Argentine absolutely demolished 19-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the semifinal as he beat the Spaniard 6-2 6-2 6-2.

"Quick shout-out to Juan Martin del Potro. He does not get enough credit for winning the US Open at 20 years old. To be honest didn’t know he was 20 at the time, until this week. Might be my lack of knowledge for not knowing but hell of an effort by him," Rubin said.

Unfortunately, health issues costed Juan Martin del Potro more success

Many expected del Potro to become a multiple Grand Slam champion and reach the world No. 1 position but his bad luck with his health prevented him from becoming the player many hoped he would become.

Just a year after winning his maiden Grand Slam title, del Potro played only a few matches in 2010 -- the same scenario happened in 2014 and 2015.

But del Potro refused to quit as he made a successful comeback to tennis and even made his second US Open final in 2018 -- in which he ended runner-up to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

A month later, Juan Martin del Potro fractured his kneecap and since then he has appeared in only five tournaments.
