Rafael Nadal can return to courts on Monday but Novak Djokovic needs to wait longer

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal will be one of the few lucky players who will be able to return to the tennis courts in Spain, starting May 11th.

However, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, of Serbia, and some other players based in Spain will not be able to do so since different parts of Spain are under different phases of the de-escalation process.

As part of Phase 0, tennis players are not allowed to return to practice on the courts while as part of Phase I, the players can resume training on a court.

Nadal will be able to return to the courts at his Manacor Academy as that region will move to Phase I starting Monday May 11th, which is great news for the 19 time Grand Slam champion.

Djokovic is currently in Marbella which remains in Phase 0 and that means the Serb will not be able to return to the courts.

Both the players had returned to the courts earlier this week under the mistaken assumption that they were allowed to play on the courts during Phase 0.

Other tennis players who will not be able to return to the courts include Alejandro Davidovich, a resident of the Costa del Sol; Roberto Bautista Agut, who is in Castellón; Pablo Carreno Busta, who had asked the Spanish Tennis Federation for a permit to move from Barcelona to the Equelite de Villena Academy; and Pablo Andujar who is in Valencia. All of these regions remain in phase 0 and will need to wait further to come back to the courts.
