Sam Groth talks player relief fund situation, Roger Federer's merger idea
Former Australian tennis player Sam Groth says the ATP are carefully weighting their options regarding what to do with player relief fund.
The ATP suspended the Tour until at least July 13 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Lower-ranked players are facing major financial struggles and they will need financial support to survive the lengthy Tour suspension.
As the time goes by, players appear to become more and more pessimistic about the chances of seeing any tennis for the rest of 2020.
"I am hearing a lot of talk right now from the ATP side where I still have a lot of connections if they go and put a whole lot of cash into a relief fund, how long can the tour survive if there not back up and running in 2020 and maybe even preparing for a worst case scenario for July 2021 which would be a real debacle," Groth said on The First Serve.

Last week, Swiss Roger Federer publicly admitted he would like to see a merger of the ATP and WTA.
"Hearing that the WTA went and gave everybody who was meant to be in the tournament first round prize money for Indian Wells, but I am also hearing they are in financially dire straits right now," Groth said.
"We talk about a merger and if that is the case between the ATP and the WTA you have to think it will be the ATP propping you the WTA side of things for the moment."
