USTA not considering moving location of US Open

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has announced they still plan to hold the US Open as scheduled and that they will most likely make the final decision mid-June. 

Last month, Wimbledon was cancelled for the first time since 1945 due to the coronavirus outbreak but the hope remains that the next calendar Grand Slam Slam -- US Open -- can take as scheduled from August 31 - September 13.

Also, the USTA has confirmed they hope to have fans at the US Open and that staging the tournament at another location wasn't considered. 

"Our plans to stage the US Open on our scheduled dates at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York with fans, remain on-going." The USTA said in the statement, per TSN Sports.

"However, we recognize that we are all facing an uncertain and rapidly-changing environment regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, and therefore have been aggressively modeling many other contingencies, including scenarios with no fans."

There were rumors that the USTA was exploring different sites for staging the US Open as New York has been one of hardest hit cities by the coronavirus pandemic.

"We are in continual contact with New York State and New York City officials and agencies, as well as meeting weekly with our Medical Advisory Group to learn as much as we can and to properly assess this shifting situation," the USTA said.

"At this moment, our target date for a decision regarding the status of the US Open is six to eight weeks away (mid-June) and we will continue to provide updates as appropriate."
