Serena Williams’ Ohanian applauds officer who wrangled a coworker for brutality

After supporting Serena Williams’ anti-racism video that shows a black little girl speaking up for her community, Alexis Ohanian continued to combat the latest police brutality acts across the USA by sharing a photo of Krystle Smith, the female police officer who scolded a caucasian colleague after the latter shoved a kneeling woman to the ground.

At the start of June, protests are in full swing across multiple American cities and incidents keep appearing. After George Floyd’s neck was strangled by a police officer’s knee and then died, now Steven Pohorence, an officer belonging to the Fort Lauderdale police department, pushed a kneeling woman who was caught in the middle of the protesting area.

Krystle Smith, a black female officer, saw the scene from up close and immediately jumped on her colleague. The video with the incident went viral and, apparently, has got to Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, as well. After he saw the video, Ohanian shared an image picturing Officer Smith pointing her finger angrily to her colleague, Pohorence, and commented: “Officer Krystle Smith. Protecting and Serving.”

The unfortunate event had got to the ears of Rick Maglione, the chief of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, who shortly communicated the suspension of the aggressive officer and praised the act of Krystle Smith. “She did what you are supposed to do: When you see either adrenaline or emotion or some kind of interaction going south ... that is our job to do, is intervene,” he said.

The couple showed their solidarity to the harsh events currently unfolding on the streets of so many American cities. Both being strong influencers, Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian have shown their support during these times.

Serena expressed her feelings of sadness.  “A lot of us growing up were taught to pray “Let thy kingdom come,” and this is what I continue to pray for in addition to so many that have been hurt/killed or simply traumatized by how people of a different color are treated,” she wrote on Instagram.

On the other side, Ohanian sent forward his wife’s message on the same social media platform while commenting “White America, we need to do better.”
