Eden Silva on her idol Serena WilliamsThe 24 year old Eden Silva, who will be in action at the Battle of the Brits Team Tennis event, was contacted by W Model Management recently and spoke to the British media outlet The Sun about wanting to follow in the footsteps of the 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams. “I’m a big believer that you don’t just identify as a tennis player. It’s important to have other interests. The agency represents athletes, models and reality TV stars. I thought it was a good thing to pursue. It’s not catwalk modelling. But I could be the face of different campaigns. Potential sponsors and advertising. I’ve always expressed an interest in fashion and beauty. My main focus is tennis. This will compliment it and distract me in a good way. My hero Serena has had tough times but the way she presents herself off court is strong and fiery. I admire her. She is my favourite tennis player. She is a prime example of someone who is purely focused and dedicated on tennis but has other things on the side. She is successful in both fashion and tennis. If Serena can do it, why not you?”
Eden Silva has a career-high WTA singles ranking of 424 and a career high WTA doubles ranking of 132. She is currently ranked No. 486 in the world in singles and No. 161 in doubles.
Serena Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any player in the Open Era, and the second-most of all time behind Margaret Court (24). She has been ranked No. 1 in the world for a total of 319 weeks, which ranks third in the Open Era among female players behind Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova. Serena also holds the most Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles combined among active players. Her 39 Grand Slam titles put her joint-third on the all-time list and second in the Open Era: 23 in singles, 14 in women's doubles, and two in mixed doubles. She is currently ranked in the Top 10 in the world rankings and has said that she is planning to play the upcoming US Open in New York.
