Former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki and American James Blake will be part of the tennis coverage team at the American sports TV network ESPN for the upcoming US Open.
Caroline Wozniacki and James Blake to cover the US Open for ESPNThe former World No. 1 Wozniacki retired from the tennis circuit in January this year after the Australian Open. James Blake is a former World No. 4 tennis player and the two will provide expert analysis for ESPN's coverage of this year's US Open, which kicks off on August 31 in New York City.
The news was announced by Australian coach Darren Cahill on Twitter, who is also part of the ESPN coverage team.
The US Open will be played without fans and will be the first Grand Slam event held since the Australian Open in January. Prior to the US Open, the Western & Southern Open will be held at the US Open grounds. Some top players including women's World No. 1 Ash Barty and men's World No. 2 Rafael Nadal have decided not to play the two events this year due to concerns about the global health crisis.
Among the big stories that the two will be covering at the US Open this year is Serena Williams' attempt to win a 24th Grand Slam singles title in New York - which would equal the record held by Australia's Margaret Court. Another important story line is Novak Djokovic's attempt to win an 18th Grand Slam singles title and close the gap on rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the race for most number of Grand Slam titles.
The Dane had earlier spoken about how she would consider working in television in the future.
Caroline Wozniacki was the first woman from a Scandinavian country to hold the World No. 1 spot. She has won 30 WTA singles titles in her career and also finished as runner-up at the 2009 US Open. In 2017, she won the season-ending WTA Finals in Singapore for the first time in her career. Wozniacki won her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2018 Australian Open and returned to the top sport in January 2018.
In October 2018, Caroline Wozniacki announced that she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and that she would like to become a role model for people with the condition. James Blake won 24 singles titles in his career and reached the semifinals of the Beijing Olympics, and the quarterfinals of the Australian Open (2008) and US Open (2005, 2006). He was also part of the United States 2007 Davis Cup championship team.
