Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev confirmed to play the US Open
Tennis - Two more top players on the men's side - Russia's Daniil Medvedev and German Alexander Zverev - have confirmed their participation at the US Open Grand Slam event in New York later this month.

Meanwhile, it is reported that World No. 7 Alexander Zverev has also confirmed his participation in New York as per tennis journalist Jannik Schneider, who says, "Team8 confirmed via @SID_Sportnews that A. #Zverev will play US Open for sure - he will travel to the USA on Saturday."

Defending champion Rafael Nadal, of Spain, who is currently ranked No. 2 in the world, leads the list of top players on the men's side who are not travelling to New York. Also missing will be three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka and Australia's Nick Kyrgios. World No. 4 Roger Federer is out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury but plans to be back for the 2021 season.
Some of the top women players, such as World No. 1 Ash Barty, Top 10 players Elina Svitolina and Kiki Bertens, former champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova have also withdrawn from the tournament due to concerns about travelling.
Meanwhile, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has confirmed his participation in the event as has young Italian Jannik Sinner. Most of the players based in America currently are also likely to play the tournament.
The ATP Tour will hold two events in New York - the Western & Southern Open and the US Open in New York to ensure that players are in one location during their time in the United States. These will be the first events since the ATP Tour was shut down in March due to the global pandemic. The Western & Southern Open begins next week on August 20th while the US Open gets underway on 31st August.
