Milos Raonic reveals the reason for following the rules strictly during the pandemic

Canadian tennis star Milos Roanic, who scored a win in his first round match over American Sam Querrey at the Western & Southern Open in New York, says he has been strictly following the required protocols during the tennis shutdown and will do so once again during the current tournaments as he has aged parents who have co-existing conditions.

Raonic is currently ranked No. 30 in the world and scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over Querrey in New York on Saturday.

Later, he spoke about how he has been very strict with the quarantine rules at home as well as in the US Open bubble with a view of his aged parents in mind.

Milos Raonic says he has been motivated to follow rules as he has aged parents

According to the Tennis Now website, Raonic says, "My motivation was plain and simple. It's my parents. I'm not sure what the ages are of the other players' parents, those people that are closest to them. Both my parents, being over 65, and also having pre-existing conditions... and I haven't seen my father this year at all. I saw my mom for I think a day and a half after the Australian Open.

"For me it was important that I got to see them, but I was also very motivated to stay smart and healthy because of them. So I can't really comment too much on what other players are doing. I understand it can be tough, but I had a clear idea of why I was doing it."

The 29 year old Canadian revealed that he has not had a haircut since the beginning of the year and is staying in one of the private suites that the US Open has made available for seeded players, instead of the player hotels, to minimise contact with others to the extent possible during his stay in New York. Raonic also said he plans to follow a similar regimen  for any other events he will play in the coming months on the tour.

Milos Raonic peaked at No. 3  in the rankings in 2016 - that is the highest ever ranking for a Canadian man.  His career highlights include a Grand Slam final at the 2016 Wimbledon Championships and two semifinals at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships and 2016 Australian Open majors.
