Fabio Fognini: "Andy Murray is arrogant"

Italian Fabio Fognini and Scotsman Andy Murray have met eight times in their careers, with four wins on each side: the last challenge was staged in the second round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 and saw the Italian triumph 7-6 2 -6 7-6.

During that same match, Murray complained to the chair judge that Fabio would have screamed at the point not yet finished, which could have disturbed him. "Shut your mouth," Andy even silenced him on that occasion, as he explained what had happened to the referee.

Fognini: "Murray is an arrogant person"

This week, the former number one of Italy published his book Warning. My life between the lines, in which he also talked about Andy. He said: "Murray and I never got along. We are two hotheads and we lose our temper pretty quickly. When we are on the pitch we despise each other… Andy Murray is arrogant from a young age. A guy who's all lob and dunking, who does these kinds of shots to make fun of you."

Fognini lost his first round match at the Italian Open 2020 in Rome against the young Frenchman Ugo Humbert, who overtook him with a score of 7-5 7-6. Before this tournament, Fognini made his return to the field for the first time since February in the Austrian tournament in Kitzbuhel, clearly defeated by the Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler.

Fabio's best result at the Internazionali d'Italia is represented by the quarter-finals of 2018, beaten in three sets by Rafa Nadal. As for Murray, the Briton reached the fourth round at the Western and Souther Open 2020 and was then overtaken by the very young Félix Auger Aliassime in the second round of the US Open, after having already canceled match points and having recovered from two sets of disadvantage in the previous game against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka.

In a few hours, Roland Garros in Paris will start, moved to September from last spring due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The Parisian Slam will be played from 28 September to 11 October 2020, and there will be many new features. Despite the gravity of the global pandemic in France, the tournament organizers will allow entry to five thousand people a day. Furthermore, the Philippe Chatrier Court will finally have a retractable roof and lights for the conduct of the evening session matches.
