US Open day 13 recap: Naomi Osaka once again queen in a day of provocation!
Naomi Osaka is the queen of the US Open again! The Japanese triumphed in the 2020 edition in the Flushing Meadows bubble by beating the revived Victoria Azarenka with a fantastic come back, after losing the first set and risking compromising the second one. Osaka won her third Grand Slam, second at the US Open, after her 2018 win against Serena Williams. Two girls protagonists of the last three weeks of tennis considering also the Western and Southern Open, which excited fans from all over the world, despite the absence of the crowd.
The US Open 2020 will be an edition that will have many interesting topics to talk about. Not only the absence of many stars such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Ashleigh Barty and Simona Halep, not only for the health situation, for the Benoit Paire's controversy and for the New York bubble, but above all for the disqualification of Novak Djokovic.
On this topic former world number one Caroline Wozniacki commented (perhaps criticizing Djokovic?) the exclusion of the Serb from Flushing Meadows: “Well, he had no intention of hitting the line judge but the rules say you can't do that. I am happy that she is fine and that everything is fine, but rules are rules. The tournament had no choice but to disqualify Djokovic."
The best and the worst from the US Open day 13Another provocation came from Sasa Ozmo, a Serbian journalist very close to Nole, who highlighted an alleged difference in treatment between Djokovic and Roger Federer: "Nole's gesture is absolutely not unusual. A scene comes to mind: Roger Federer who pulled the ball out of the stadium during the 2019 Roland Garros semi-final against Rafael Nadal. The corwds from the front rows were shocked with fear. However, Federer didn't have to answer a single question on this topic at the press conference. If Novak had, the criticisms would have been endless. This is why many in Serbia feel that he has been penalized too much. We must also understand that it is not easy for Djokovic. We all know what the atmosphere was like at the US Open 2015 or Wimbledon 2019 against Federer. It is clear that Nole would like more support from the public. In any case, the feeling of being one against the world has often helped him."
Talking about controversies and provocations, Nick Kyrgios is certainly a specialist of those, with yet another message against Pablo Carreno-Busta. Committed to the US Open, the Spaniard did not answer directly but hinted that it is not the time to talk about Kyrgios because while the others play tennis he is at home getting bored. Through his Instagram profile, the Australian tea responded again to this small provocation by taking: "It is clear that I would like to play the US Open, but I decided not to participate because given the current conditions in America I did not feel safe. Yes, Carreno -Busta maybe I'm a little bored but if it were all up to me I'd destroy you again. 2-0, shh! " he said, pointing out the only two head-to-head of the two won by Kyrgios.
Today the men's singles final: Alexander Zverev will challenge Dominic Thiem!
