WTA Ranking: Naomi Osaka and Victoria Azarenka got positions!

As for the WTA ranking, this was moved thanks to the victory of the Us Open 2020 by Naomi Osaka who thus moved to 3rd place in the ranking, gaining 6 positions at the expense of her opponents of the top-10. Osaka won the third Major of her career, after the 2018 US Open won against Serena Williams and the 2019 Australian Open won against Petra Kvitova. The Japanese, after every victory in every match in the Flushing Meadows bubble, always wore a t-shirt of former Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

Very well also Viktorjia Azarenka, in 14th place, advancing 13 places. These are the only noticeable changes in position in the WTA Top-20 rankings. The Belarusian is back as a great protagonist, after the victory at the Western and Southern Open, winning the final also the US Open, beating her rival Serena Williams in the semifinals.

Well the Americans Jennifer Brady with the best Ranking, in 25th place (the American thanks to the semifinal in New York, has gained 16 positions), Sloane Stephens ahead of 6 positions, to 33rd place and, above all Shelby Rogers, in 55th position.  With the quarters reached at the US Open, the American has gained 38 positions and moved to 55th place of the ranking. In the Top-100 steps forward also for Kovinic, Badosa Gilbert, Gracheva and Sasnovich with the latter two entering the top hundred positions in the world. Cori Gauff is the world no 53.

Eugenie Bouchard gets the 163rd position of the ranking

Finalist in Istanbul, the Canadian Eugenie Bouchard tries to re-enter in the top-100 of the ranking, and this week she gained 109 positions and she is now number 163 in the world. Ashleigh Barty is still in first place in the WTA ranking, although the Australian will only return on the court in 2021 and therefore will not defend the 2000s at Roland Garros. In second place Simona Halep, who will return to Rome for the Italian Open, followed by Noami Osaka, Karolina Pliskova and the Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.

Elina Svitolina, Bianca Andreescu, Kiki Bertens, Serena Williams and Belinda Bencic complete the top-10. Petra Kvitova (11), Garbine Muguruza (17) and Elise Mertens (20) are among the top 20 tennis players in the world. Angelique Kerber is in 22nd position.

With the Italial Open and Roland Garros there should be some new changes in the WTA ranking, which we will only be able to see at the end of the Roman week and the Parisian fortnight. With the 2000 points that Ashleigh Barty will lose and with the other predictable performances of the other stars, there could be new changes in the ranking in the coming weeks.
