ATP Paris: Alexander Zverev storms over Miomir Kecmanovic. Milos Raonic wins

The 4th seed Alexander Zverev arrived in Paris after winning back-to-back titles in Cologne. The German is off to a great start in the French capital, toppling Miomir Kecmanovic 6-2, 6-2 in 55 minutes for the 66th Masters 1000 triumph. Alexander lost eight points in eight service games, never facing a break point and mounting the pressure on the other side of the net. Miomir was far from those numbers, giving away half of the points in his games and suffering two breaks in each set to propel Alexander through. Zverev had 33 winners and 16 unforced errors, leaving the Serb on eight direct points and 19 mistakes and dominating both the shortest and more advanced exchanges to wrap up the triumph in under an hour. Alexander grabbed a break at 15 in the first game thanks to a forehand crosscourt winner, holding at love with an ace in game two to confirm the advantage and move 2-0 in front. Kecmanovic got his name on the scoreboard in game three before Zverev landed a backhand down the line winner in game four to open a 3-1 gap.

The Serb hit a double fault to suffer another break and push the opponent 4-1 up, allowing the German to close the opener in 25 minutes with four winners at 5-2. Miomir held at 15 at the beginning of the second set for a promising start, spraying a forehand error in game three to hand the break to Alexander. The 4th seed placed a backhand down the line winner in the fourth game to cement the lead, holding at 15 with a service winner at 3-2 to remain in front. Another backhand down the line winner earned a break for the German in game seven, moving over the top with three winners at 5-2 to advance into the third round. The 10th Milos Raonic defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 31 minutes, securing the 118th Masters 1000 win and entering the last 16.

Alexander Zverev needed less than an hour to make a winning start in Paris.

The Canadian lost 12 points in ten service games, fending off the only break point and mounting the pressure on the other side of the net. Raonic hit 26 winners and 18 unforced errors and had the upper hand in the shortest range up to four strokes to seal the deal in straight sets. Milos forced a mistake from Pierre-Hugues in the fifth game to gain the lead, serving well and closing the opener with a hold at love in game ten after 40 minutes. Raonic saved a break point in the second game of the second set with an ace and wasted three opportunities on the return in the next one. Like in the opener, the French player lost serve at 2-2 when he netted a backhand, allowing Raonic to seal the deal with four winners in game ten.
