Is Venus Williams still training with Serena?
The sisters Serena and Venus Williams were the champions who most highlighted the last twenty years of tennis, ranging and winning Slams in the women's singles, in the women's doubles, winning gold medals at the Olympic games and holding up the sporting honor of the USA for many years, and not just in tennis.
Venus has won 7 Grand Slam titles (5 Wimbledon and 2 US Open) and 49 WTA titles. Venus and younger sister Serena Williams were trained in tennis thanks to their father. Venus often lived in the shadow of her sister.
Is Venus Williams still training with Serena? In a recent interview, Venus talked about also her sister, and if they still practice together. She said: "No. Not much. We stopped practicing many years ago. We just like to work on different things. So, in order to get our best practices, we have to do different practices. Serena likes to do a lot of baseline shots, I like to do many other things. And even when we practice together we spend all the time saying what do you want to do? Anything you want. No what do you want? (she laughs) We don't always hit. But sometimes we do and these are best practices."
Venus is a perfect tennis player on hard and grass-courts. She is also the only tennis player in history, besides Helen Wills and her sister Serena, to have won the Olympics in both singles and doubles in the same edition, that of 2000.
In 2012, with the victory at the London Olympic Games in double, Venus has become the tennis player with the most gold medals in history, along with Serena, thanks to her four medals. In 2016 she also won the silver medal in mixed doubles paired with compatriot Rajeev Ram.
We have to recall that in 2011, after missing the entire US Open Series due to a viral disease, Venus participates in the US Open as number 36 in the world. In the first round she beats the Serbian Vesna Dolonc but gives up playing the second match of the tournament, which would see her opposed to Sabine Lisicki.
The cause of this lumpiness is the diagnosis of a rheumatic autoimmune disease, which drains her energy, straining her and causing her joint pain: Sjögren's syndrome. For the first time in her career, Venus misses the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament.
